Here are some facts on the FISA Legislation that Boyda overlooks when discussing it.
- It applies only to foreign terrorists outside the United States. No civil liberties of American citizens are in jeopardy.
- Boyda opposes protecting telecom companies from frivolous lawsuits from groups like the ACLU. The Senate passed legislation would allow these telecom companies to work hand-in-hand with our intelligence community to protect us from foreign threats.
- Boyda is trying to make our intelligence experts go through a bureaucratic legal process to be able to monitor terrorists outside the United States. The Senate passed legislation puts the power in the hands of intelligence experts and allows them to move quickly to monitor threats.
Here’s a brief video that sheds more light on the situation.
Boyda has also voted for a sham bill on this issues, simply to get some political cover. This bill was opposed by a bi-partisan group of Senators who are concerned about America’s security. This same group of Senators has passed the right kind of legislation that would protect Americans. (House Roll Call 145)
And, to top it all off she actually voted to monitor climate change as a “national security threat.” (House Roll Call 117)
Boyda and her missteps are bad for Kansas. In November, vote for real change.
